Nutritional Therapy, Food Intolerance and Diagnostic Testing

Nutritional therapy focuses on the use or elimination of particular foods, vitamins, minerals and nutrients in order to improve the health and wellbeing of a patient. The principles applied are not new – it has been used since Grecian times, where Hippocrates used it to help people of all stages to stay at their personal peak of energy and vitality. The discipline is holistic in that it is designed to treat the body as a whole, tackling the cause, rather than the symptoms, of a problem, an approach which is often overlooked by conventional medicine.

Nutritional Consultation

When you arrange the consultation, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire giving details of any health issues you may have as well as information about your dietary habits and lifestyle.

The initial consultation will take 1 hour.  During this time your nutritional therapist will discuss with you the health issue you would like to improve and explore what factors may be contributing to your symptoms.  A personalised action plan is then agreed and is likely to include changes to your current eating habits, nutritional supplement programme, and lifestyle recommendations.  Laboratory tests may be recommended, if appropriate.

Progress will be monitored at monthly follow-up appointments and adjustments to your programme made as necessary.

    • 60 minutes (Initial) £95.00
    • 45 minutes (Follow Up Appointment) £75.00

Food Intolerance Test

Discover whether a food intolerance could be adversely affecting your health.
The Food Detective intolerance test has been developed by Cambridge Nutritional Sciences.  The test involves a skin prick blood test which tests for a reaction against 59 of the most common food intolerances.
Our food intolerance test is carried out by a BANT* Registered Nutritional Therapist and includes a full Nutrition Consultation.  During a consultation, your Nutritional Therapist will discuss any health issues that you would like to improve and explore how foods and nutrients may be contributing to the symptoms you are experiencing.
Working with a Nutritional Therapist will help you to understand why your body is reacting to certain foods and will allow a complete programme including dietary advice of how to avoid the foods to which you are showing a reaction whilst still maintaining a healthy nutrient-rich diet.

Vitamin D Testing

At Amaranth, we offer Vitamin D testing. The test, which is from the NHS trust, is conducted in our clinic by a member of our Nutritional Therapy team. This allows you to understand your Vitamin D levels and to obtain advice on the amount and type of supplementation required if appropriate.
A 20-minute session with a nutritional therapist during which a finger-prick blood sample is taken for the test. A small prick is made into one finger and the test is conducted on spots of blood taken from the finger.
This session also allows you to discuss your health concerns with the therapist.  Prior to this initial session, we will ask you to complete a health questionnaire. Your blood will be sent away to an NHS lab for analysis. After approximately two weeks, your results will be sent to your nutritional therapist.  Your therapist will then contact you to arrange an appointment for you to discuss the results and any supplementation that is required. Following your obtaining your results, you may wish to book in for a full consultation with a nutritional therapist for an in-depth programme to support your health concerns.
